About This Site
Hut-to-hut distance hiking in the Alps is one of my passions and this site is all about sharing that with others. These are my favorite 7-14 day long-distance routes in France, Italy, Austria, and Switzerland. They are not necessarily the hardest or the highest. But I think they are the most enjoyable for those of us who like to walk long days at high elevations and also love to relax in the evening with a good meal and glass of wine. This site gives an overview of my favorite hikes along with my recommendations of places to stay and eat. I share my favorite huts and towns and try to give you an overall feel for a hiking tour. It is not my objective to give you a blow-by-blow of each day’s route or provide all the detailed information you need to prepare for a trip. There are plenty of good guide books and other web sites available for this. Finally, I want to give credit to my good friend, Cherri Rapp, for many of the beautiful photographs I’ve included.
About Me
My name is Judy. I live with my wonderful partner, Linda, in Austin, Texas. We are lucky to share this passion for hiking in the Alps and so we do most of our traveling together. I first fell in love with the Alps and this form of travel over 25 years ago when I hiked the Tour of Mont Blanc for the first time. I was euphoric the first few days of that trip. I had not realized that there were mountains this beautiful where you could hike all day long with merely a light pack. Then you got to sit down with your fellow hikers from many parts of the world and enjoy a dinner that someone else had cooked. I was an avid backpacker in the United States for many years but this was something else entirely and I loved it even more. I’m also a big fan of European bicycle touring. When at home I like to cook, ride my bike, go for long walks with my dogs, and work on my French.
