10 Days Moderate
This circuit is one of the classic long distance walking trails in the world. It circles the Mont Blanc Massif, the highest in Western Europe, passing through France, Italy, and Switzerland. As long as you avoid the most popular first weeks of August, it hardly gets any better than this.

This linear route traverses almost the full length of the Dolomites from north to south. These mountains with their steep limestone cliffs dropping into verdant valleys are like no other in the Alps. Many of the huts are relatively luxurious and the large number of them allows a great deal of flexibility in deciding your itinerary.
9 Days Challenging
This spectacular route parallels the Alta Via 1 as it traverses the Dolomites. The scenery is equally as dramatic but the route is slightly more challenging and isolated. You have the opportunity to hike one of the classic via ferratas of the Dolomites called the Ferrata Tridentina. This section of iron ladders climbing the north face of the Sella Massif is exposed but not difficult. When you reach the top, you are in a different world.
8 Days Challenging
This beautiful and challenging circuit of Monte Rosa passes through Italy and Switzerland. The Monte Rosa Range is made up of seven summits over 4000 meters high. I’ve chosen a route that drops to the valley floors most evenings in order to experience as many villages as possible. This includes the famous alpine town of Zermatt and its nearby Matterhorn.
12 Days Challenging
This circuit has it all: high mountain passes, green forests, and the warmth and friendliness of the Italian people. Being part of the southern Tyrol and close to the border with Switzerland, this region is almost as much German as it is Italian. There are a few challenging parts but it ranks as one of the best and it doesn’t get the crowds that a few of the more popular tours get.
9 Days Challenging
This all-French tour passes through several charming villages and affords outstanding views of the glorious Meije massif. It lies in southeastern France close to the Italian border. The French love this challenging tour and consider it to be one of their premier distance circuits.
8 Days Moderate
If you’re looking for a region that looks just like a picture-perfect postcard of the Alps with dramatic glaciated peaks dropping into verdant valleys, this is the route for you. Glaciers, big Swiss cows, chocolate, raclette, fondu, and some of the most famous mountains in the world.
11 Days Moderate Plus
This well-known tour takes you from Chamonix, France all the way to Zermatt, Switzerland. This means you are hiking from Mont Blanc country to the distinctive Matterhorn, to say nothing of the other all-star mountains along the way. Eleven passes, 175 kilometers, and two different countries, all in one glorious range called the Pennine Alps.
8 Days Easy to Moderate
The Beaufortain, a region just southwest of the Mont Blanc massif in France, is known for its famous Beaufort cheese. This route is more moderate than the others described in this site but no less beautiful. The biggest reason of all to come here is the charm and authenticity of a people still dedicated to their pastoral way of life.
Tour of the Grand Paradiso and Vanoise
14 Days Difficult
The Gran Paradiso in Italy and the Vanoise in France are national parks which are adjoined and are thus geologic sisters. They are the oldest and among the finest national parks of each country. Together they constitute the largest protected natural area in the western Alps. Each national park tour by itself takes only five or six days but there is a symmetry and an elegance in combining the two. The result is a terrific 14-day hiking tour which connects the two national parks with a section of the Grande Randonnee 55, a beautiful route in its own right.
